Judge in Taiwan hands down ruling against piracy in Taipei Court — Today, a Taiwanese judge gave judgment to an appeal made by the defendants in a court case originally heard last year. The Judge passed down a sentence to the defendants of 3400 yuan per day fine or 6 months in jail. This is a landmark ruling as it is the first time Taiwan has recognized Japanese adult video as being protected under copyright laws of the country.
The defendants claimed that adult video was not protected as it lacks artistic merit. The judge ruled otherwise. Taiwan has become a member of the WTO (World Trade Organization) and has been pressured to protect the commerical and copyrights of fellow members.
Back story: Two men had pirated a DVD and sold it in two locations for some time. It is not sure just how many sales were made and ultimately how many DVDs from Japan were pirated.
This is truly good news for AV companies, models, actors, production companies and shooters making original content.
